| Philip Christopher Clarke, MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone 1955 | |||||
| Clarke was elected for Fermanagh and South Tyrone at the General Election held on 26 May | |||||
| 1955 by a majority of 261. However, at the time of his election, Clarke was in prison, having | |||||
| received a 10-year sentence for his part in an armed raid on Omagh Barracks on 17 October | |||||
| 1954. Also taking part in this raid was Thomas Mitchell, who was subsequently elected as | |||||
| MP for Mid Ulster at the 1955 General Election - see the note under this constituency. | |||||
| In August 1955, the runner-up in the election petitioned for the unseating of Clarke, on the | |||||
| grounds that he was a convicted felon, who was serving a sentence greater than 12 months | |||||
| months and therefore ineligible for election. On 2 September, the Court ruled that this was | |||||
| in fact the case and that the runner-up, Lord Robert George Grosvenor (later the Duke of | |||||
| Westminster) should have been returned as the elected member. | |||||
